DYNAMIS GYM
EDINBURGH
Physical Confidence
Tactical Confidence
“You can’t fake endurance” is one of our training maxims and so, alongside our tactical and technical training, we encourage all our members to work hard on their physical conditioning.
Many of our members have come to the Gym after being committed attendees at one or other large/commercial gyms, where they worked out alone on machines and treadmills.   Sound familiar?
Bored and disillusioned, many people try our partner-based combative circuits and immediately become hooked by their engaging, challenging nature and the sheer fun of doing fast-paced  exercises with a partner!
Some members need that additional motivation that comes with working in a group-class, others like the fact that they ‘lose themselves’ and can de-stress during our workouts.
Taking our lead from some of the leading fitness and conditioning experts in the field, we plan our strength, stamina and speed exercises with one goal in mind - better overall capability to do real-world tasks.
The body works most effectively as a unit, where core strength supports motor movement.  In this way, we shun bicep-curls and endless straight-line jogging in favour of whole-body, scenario-based exercises and functional movements.
The great realisation is this:  if you can pull yourself over a wall, jump over a railing with ease and run 400 meters at pace without difficulty, you are not only safer in an emergency, you are also likely to be reasonably fit and healthy!
All of our training at Dynamis Gym is based on the idea of Personal Defence Readiness - that at any time, wherever you are and whatever you are doing, you have developed a confidence which could be called ‘readiness’.  Interesting - right?

We understand that more and more in our crowded cities, the average person going about their daily life can benefit from being aware of their safety and their options for staying safe.  Furthermore, our security professionals are increasingly facing higher levels of risk in their work.

During some sessions at Dynamis Gym we’ll focus on working on tactics and strategies for specific situations in which a confrontation could happen.

In other sessions, we’ll focus on and isolate specific fundamental skills for fighting and disengagement, such as working grappling skills in a clinch, or kicking skills, or drilling how to move on the ground.  We try to develop all-round skills.

Sessions include specific Performance Enhancement learning points - concepts that help you to make decisions under stress, to help you understand your natural fear and to have clarity about how confrontations develop - much of which you will find can apply in your daily professional life and beyond.

Our advanced sessions eventually include specific scenario replication training which introduces the spontaneity, adrenaline and stimulation created by the realities of the ‘street assault’ - we do this ONLY when you feel ready!

For this type of training, we incorporate the use of special impact-reduction equipment called HIGH GEAR, which means that the training can maintain the speed, intensity and mobility of a real situation while minimising the risk of injury and maximising the learning potential of the session.
